Tom Wishon Golf Technology

I strongly suggest that anyone interested in golf or even thinking about taking up the game or if you know anyone who plays or is thinking about taking up the game go to wishongolf.com before you or they buy golf clubs. Tom covers everything you need to know about getting clubs except that the best person to fit you for clubs is your teacher IF he or she is a qualified clubfitter. If your teacher is sending you someplace else to get fitted then they need to learn how to fit, themselves. Your clubs need to be fitted to the best motion you can make and the best person to determine that is your teacher.

I use, among other things, a Henry-Griffitts fitting system to help me determine the best specifications for my students clubs. If a player wants another brand of club for whatever reason I can take their clubs and send them to Henry-Griffitts to be rebuilt according the specs. they need. Now why would I need to do that? Well I suggest you get your clubs measured to see if they were built to the specifications they were supposed to be set to.

I could make a lot of money betting people that their name brand clubs (even if they are custom made) are not on spec. Find somebody with club measuring equipment and see if your lofts and lies are where they are supposed. Measure the shaft lengths. Be present when all this is being done. I think it will open your eyes. ALWAYS check any new club you get to see if it is what it is supposed to be.

A fair number of people believe that club configuration doesn’t matter unless you are already a pretty good player. Nothing could be further from the truth.

New players need all the help they can get. Ill fitting clubs make golf more difficult to learn by forcing the player to make compensations. It would be like trying to run or walk in shoes that don’t fit. The shoes would force you to alter your gait.

Bottom line-get fitted by someone who knows what they are doing and check the clubs when you get them.
